COURSE INTRODUCTION
In the second semester of elementary Chinese, we
will continue to make efforts in learning and improving our
pronunciation, mastering more grammar patterns and vocabulary, and
practicing writing more characters. Students
are required to do the following:
1. Attending class every day. In case of illness
or emergencies, you will be excused with sufficient documents.
The final grade will be lower due to the number of unexcused absences.
2. Preparation for class. Read the pages and do
the exercises assigned on the syllabus.
3. Turning homework on time. Late homeworks will
be checked but not credited.
4. Language Lab. In addition to regularly listening
to tapes as part of your daily preparation, you are expected
to visit the language center for a minimum of one hour per week to
listen to tapes. This is mandatory, and
failure to complete this hour will adversely affect your grade. Sign
in on the sheet (under Chinese 102) at the
front desk.
5. Dictations and tests. In addition to daily
dictations on new (and old) characters, there will be one test for
approximately every three lessons from PCR. There will also be a comprehensive
midterm and final exam (with
both written and oral sessions).
